How to read a LifeChart™

By itself, this unique and revolutionary view gives an instant overview of you. When shown in your Talent Profile it provides unparalleled insight into your career, helping potential employers to see your strengths, and helping you to plan your career.

What does your LifeChart tell you about you?

Use the guide below to find out how to read a LifeChart:

The basics:

A LifeChart shows time on the x-axis (horizontal) and achievement on the y-axis (vertical). Achievement is measured by points, and the points are awarded based on your historical entries.

There are separate lines for professional (work), education and personal entries. You can toggle the view of these by clicking on the relevant button in the LifeChart's key.

Education:

  • A peak in the educational line marks the end of a period of study.
  • A trough shows a period of no activity.

Professional:

  • A peak in the professional line indicates career growth.
  • A trough shows a period of inactivity such as time off for education or maybe a change of career.

Reading in meaning:

  • 1999 - 2002
The steady climb to the peak at the end of 2002 indicates this individual was studying for an extended period of time - most likely they were at college or university. A small peak in the professional line could indicate work experience or internship.
  • 2002 - 2005
Note how the professional (blue) line climbs as the education line falls. This indicates that this person was employed after graduating, perhaps starting out in their chosen profession.
  • 2004 - 2005
A rapid rise to the peak in 2005 along with a drop in professional points indicates they were on a shorter but perhaps more advanced full-time course. Perhaps this was business school or maybe a masters degree?
  • 2005 - 2008
A sharp climb highlights rapid growth in their career means the qualification they gained was worthwhile. This person is rapidly on track to be at the top of their profession.

Not too difficult, right?
