Go to www.zapoint.com and click on the blue "sign up" button in the top right corner of the homepage.
You will be taken to the "create a Zapoint account" page, where you will be asked to provide your email and location details and provide a password and nickname.
If you were referred by a current Zapoint user, enter their nickname in the "referred by" box; otherwise, leave the box blank.
Once you have clicked the blue "sign up" button at the bottom of the page, a request will be sent to Zapoint admin to set up your account.
Shortly after this you will receive a confirmation email from Zapoint asking you to validate your account.
Click on the link in the email, and you can start using your Zapoint login details to create a profile and generate a Lifechart of your achievements.
Go to www.zapoint.com and click on the blue "login" button.
Login using the email address and password you chose and you will be taken to your "my Zapoint" page.
At the top of the page you will see a blue menu bar with the heading "member links" at the top, and a number of yellow links below. Click on "My Zapoint" then "Data" and "History" from the expanded menus.
On the "data / history" page, click on the "Add historical entry”quot; link and you will then have the choice of adding a professional, educational or personal entry.
Click on the appropriate link and fill in the requested fields (those marked with a star are compulsory and others are optional, although we recommend that you complete all entries with as much detail as possible).
You can also upload your resume once using our browse/upload facility (currently available only for resumes in English, but shortly available for Spanish too). This will save time by pre-populating your Zapoint profile with information from your resume. You can then expand on this with further detail and skills tags, to ensure your profile represents your true skills in as much detail as possible. This can either be accessed under "Account Settings" or from the link on the "Data : History" page.
Completing the "Tags" box is particularly important. Tags represent your key skills and attributes for that particular historical entry. Employers and recruiters use these to search for their ideal candidates, so you need to make sure you show all your relevant skills.
You can also enter up to 10 personal tags, by going to "My Zapoint" then "data" and then "personal Tags" from the blue menu bar. These are similar to the professional tags described above and are the 10 personal tags which you think best describe you as a professional.
As you enter more and more entries, you will begin to create a comprehensive history and resume, which will be reflected in your current score and your Lifechart.
Once you are logged in, go to "My Zapoint" and then "Lifechart™" from the blue menu bar and then click on the "My Lifechart" link.
This will take you to you Lifechart 2.0, which is an interactive version of your resume, which enables you and recruiters to get an overview of your achievements, as well as your skills (listed in the right in order of frequency) and network.
Clicking the check boxes next to "Professional", "Educational" and "Personal" below the chart will hide / reveal the respective line on the chart.
In the top right-hand corner of each box in Lifechart 2.0 is a square expand/collapse button. This enables you to minimize / maximize the view. For example, clicking to expand the "Professional" box reveals the summary boxes for your professional entries, displayed under the relevant part of the Lifechart timeline. Therefore, to see the entries that correspond to each line on the chart, simply expand the relevant section that you wish to view.
Clicking on one of the 3 icons within the professional entry box will open a bubble to show summary information. Clicking on the top circle will show company and job title information; clicking in the clock will reveal the duration of that entry; clicking on the skills icon will open a list of the skills tags related to that role, as well as highlighting these skills in the skills list on the right.
Clicking on a specific skill in the skills list will highlight the summary boxes for the entries in which you have identified that skill.
To view the resume entries in more detail, click on the "resume" link under "My Zapoint" on the blue menu bar. Alternatively, click on the blue "view text resume" button below your name on the Lifechart 2.0 page
To edit the details on your resume, or request an assessment, click on "My Zapoint", then "History" and "Data". From here you can scroll down to see your entries and use the "request assessment", "edit" or "delete" links.
The numbers you see above your lifechart on your "my Zapoint page" show your connections. These represent your network and the people who you consider to be at the same level as you.
Unlike many other networking sites, where you can create worthless links and networks, Zapoint networks can only be extended by invitation.
Mentors are people you look up to who you ask to assess you (see below).
Mentees are people who look up to you, who have asked you to assess them.
Peers are people you consider to be at the same level as you. To create your peer group, simply perform a search and click the "add as peer" link in the summary box for the person you want to add to your peer group.
Once you’ve added someone to your network, any changes they make to their profile will be detailed on your "connections radar", which appears below your Lifechart on your "my Zapoint" page.
To request an assessment, go to "My Zapoint" then "history" and "data" from the blue menu bar.
Go to the entry for which you want an assessment and click "request assessment".
Add the assessor's Zapoint username in the box and add a message. They will then be sent an assessment request.
Once the assessment has been completed, a link to this will appear in the relevant entry in your resume.
Using the search box at the top of the page, you can search the members on the system using their personal tags and the tags they have applied to their resume entries.
By clicking on the "advanced" search link below the search box, you can also expand the search parameters to include schools, employers, locations. The more detailed your search criteria, the more precise your search results will be.
The results will be ranked, so that the first results will be those that match most closely with your search criteria, based on both their achievement scores and skills tags. You may see someone with a lower score in Zapoints appearing above someone with a higher score. This is because although they may have achieved less in their career overall, they may have more experience in the actual skills specified in the search
You can use the search feature to identify people to add to your peer group.
Under "My Zapoint" and "Lifechart" from the blue menu bar, select "Compare Lifecharts".
Type in the Zapoint nickname for the member you want to compare yourself to and both your and the other member’s Lifechart will be displayed.
Once you are logged in, at the top of the "My Zapoint" page is an "Account Settings" link.
This is where you can update information relating to your membership, including your email address, profile, email notification preferences, job seeking status etc
